What I do

Residential plastering,
small to medium jobs

Three things make up most of my work. If your job is a mix of all three, that's normal — it's all quoted together as one price.

Plaster Repairs & Patching

The bread and butter. Fast-setting compounds mean most small repairs are set, sanded and ready for paint the same day — or first thing next morning if the damp won't let them dry.

  • Door handle & furniture holes
  • Cracked walls & cornice joins
  • Water damage & storm repairs
  • Sagging or stained ceiling patches
  • Popped screws and nail pops

Gyprock & Plasterboard

New sheeting for walls and ceilings — measured, hung, set and sanded to a proper paint-ready finish.

  • New walls & ceiling sheeting
  • Room additions & garage conversions
  • Re-sheeting after water damage
  • Wet-area and villaboard sheeting
  • Insulation and batts as required

Cornice, Ceilings & Finishing

The part people notice without knowing why — a cornice line that runs true, and corners that are actually square. Same standard of finish on every job.

  • Cornice supply, install & repair
  • Square-set and shadowline
  • Full ceiling replacement
  • Sanded flush, ready for paint
  • Archways, bulkheads & niches

Renovating?

I also take on full-room and whole-house plastering for small to medium residential renovations across the Coffs Coast — kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and knock-throughs. Happy to work in with your builder's schedule.

Where I work

Woolgoolga, Coffs Harbour & the Coffs Coast

I'm based on the northern beaches and cover the run from Red Rock and Corindi in the north, through Woolgoolga, Emerald Beach and Moonee Beach, into Coffs Harbour, and south to Sawtell, Toormina and Bonville.

Further out — Urunga, Nana Glen, Glenreagh — still worth a call. I get out that way often enough, and I'll tell you straight if the travel doesn't stack up.

Questions

Straight answers

Do you take on small jobs, or just big ones?

Small jobs are a big part of what I do. A single hole in a hallway wall is a perfectly normal call to make. Small repairs are usually grouped into a run so you're not paying for a wasted trip, which means you may wait a few days for a slot — but you will get a call back and a real date.

What does plaster repair cost around Coffs Harbour?

It comes down to how big the damaged area is, whether the sheet has to be cut out and replaced or can be patched, how much protecting and prep the room needs, and how we get to it — whether it's reachable off trestles or the job needs scaffold. Access is the one that catches people out: a stairwell void or a raked ceiling can take longer to set up than it does to plaster.

What it doesn't depend on is the standard of the finish. That's the same on every job. Text me a photo and I'll give you a ballpark straight away, then a fixed written price when I come out. Quotes are free and there's no call-out fee.

Do you service Woolgoolga and the northern beaches?

Yes — that's home turf. Woolgoolga, Sandy Beach, Mullaway, Safety Beach, Emerald Beach, Arrawarra, Corindi and Red Rock are all covered, as well as Coffs Harbour and south to Sawtell and Bonville.

Are you insured? Do I need a licensed contractor?

I carry public liability insurance and invoice under an ABN. On licensing: in NSW, residential building work valued over $5,000 in labour and materials requires a licensed contractor. I deliberately keep to jobs under that threshold — repairs, single rooms, small to medium work — which is exactly the work I'm set up for.

If a job is going to come in over $5,000, I'll tell you that up front rather than take it on. Worth asking any tradesperson the same question before they start.

How long will it take, and when can it be painted?

On small repairs I use fast-setting compounds, and if the day allows I'll drop back the same afternoon to sand it off and hand it over finished. That's what I aim for on most of them.

What decides it is drying time, not effort. Humidity and the weather on this coast can stretch that out well past what it'd be in a dry week, and compound that isn't fully dry can't be sanded properly — rush it and you'll see the patch later, flashing through the paint. When a job falls that way I come back the next morning for the final sand rather than cut the corner.

Once it's sanded and dust-free, give it a full day before the paint goes on. Larger jobs get a schedule up front so you can book your painter in with confidence.

Do you clean up afterwards?

Always. Floors get covered, doorways get sealed where practical to keep sanding dust out of the rest of the house, and every offcut and bag leaves with me. You shouldn't be able to tell I was there apart from the wall looking right.

Do you paint as well?

No — I stick to plastering and leave painting to painters. I hand the job over properly prepped and can point you to a couple of good local painters if you need one.
